Our Team

Rich Balasa is Director of Broker Relations at USI Affinity, overseeing the daily operations of our current broker partners.  Rich brings over 15 years of professional liability experience to the USI Affinity management team.  Prior to his current role, Rich was a top producer focused on new business production in our Lawyers Professional Liability Division. He understands the importance of speed to market, product knowledge, and works with a sense of urgency that our broker partners appreciate and have grown to trust over the years.

Rich, a Penn State University graduate, currently resides in Pipersville, PA with his wife, 2 kids, and 2 Pomeranians!   An avid runner and soccer fan, he still plays in local Men’s leagues and trains/develops youth goalkeepers. 

Mike Mooney is the Senior Vice President and Professional Liability Practice Leader for USI Affinity.  Mike’s responsibility is to drive growth and provide strategic leadership in the area of professional liability.  Mike’s key focus is the management and development of existing programs, new programs, business development and marketing planning.   Mike oversees the underwriting, operations, and sales departments that support the professional liability programs.

Mike is also responsible for coordinating the program management for USI Affinity’s endorsed insurance programs, including The New York State Bar Association, The New Jersey State Bar Association, Pennsylvania Bar Association, DC Bar, Boston Bar, and Delaware State Bar Association. 

With more than 20 years of industry experience, Mike has worked extensively on many facets of insurance programs for professional service firms. Prior to joining USI Affinity, Mike spent over 8 years with Aon in a variety of management roles. Most notably, Mike was the Assistant Vice President and National Sales Manager for Aon Affinity’s Healthcare Division and spent time as the National Sales Manager for the AICPA Accountant’s Professional Liability Program.  

Mike holds a Property and Casualty Insurance License in New Jersey and National non-resident Producer License.  He graduated from Rowan University in New Jersey with a bachelor’s degree in Business Management.

Amy Kaban is the Vice President of Program Underwriting for USI Affinity.  Amy’s main responsibilities include managing the underwriting staff, ensuring efficiency of underwriting processes, maximizing existing program capabilities and working on program expansion.

With almost 20 years of industry experience, Amy has experience in many different areas of professional liability including but not limited to D&O, EPL, Fiduciary, Cyber, Fidelity, Miscellaneous Professional Liability, Accountant’s Professional Liability and Lawyer’s Professional Liability.   She has managed programs across multiple professions including Attorneys, Insurance Agents, Home Inspectors, and general MPL.

Amy started her career at Philadelphia Insurance Companies where she worked her way up from renewal underwriter to Underwriting and Product Manager for the largest region in the company.  During her 4 years at Catlin, Amy developed and managed a professional liability book of business for MPL, Insurance Agents PL and Tech/Cyber.  Most recently, Amy was Vice President of Underwriting at Validus Specialty where she managed production, profitability and broker relationships for a countrywide book of both admitted and E&S commercial E&O products and programs.

Amy has CPCU, RPLU, ARM, ASLI, AFSB and ARE designations.  She graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Public Health Administration from Stockton University.

Mike has over 13 years of industry experience working with various lines of coverage and a range of professional service providers.  Currently, he is responsible for the marketing and renewal of all mid-sized program and specialty lines Lawyers Professional Liability business for USI Affinity.  In addition, Mike manages relationships with Affinity’s broker and carrier partners.  He is based in Matawan, NJ and joined USI back in August 2015 from Aon’s Professional Services Group where he worked as an Account Specialist servicing mid-sized law firms based predominately in the NY metropolitan area and CA.  He was also a key contributor on a team servicing a specialist law firm program nationwide.  Prior to that, Mike worked for Aon Affinity in Hatboro, PA on their Accountants program.
